“Industrial Strength Bluegrass: Southwest Ohio’s Musical Legacy”

Appalachians seeking jobs migrated in large numbers to southwestern Ohio in the 20th century and brought their music with them, creating a thriving and innovative bluegrass music scene across the Miami Valley and especially in the communities of Cincinnati, Dayton, Hamilton, Middletown and Springfield between 1947 and 1989. Fred Bartenstein and Curt Ellison highlight southwestern Ohio’s bluegrass musicians, radio broadcasters, recording studios, record labels and performance venues that produced distinctive bluegrass sounds, reached new fans, and deeply influenced roots music.
